The coastal goats at Glesvær

The coastal goat is a unique Norwegian goat breed. The goats at Glesvær are five castrated males whose main task is to keep the vegetation low at the trading post. They were born in Stad and came to Glesvær in September 2025. All the goats share the same father, but only Doffen and Oreo are full siblings.

We ask that no one feeds the goats human food or ornamental plants, as goats are not as hardy as many people think. The goats’ area is not fenced in, as they roam using Nofence, a virtual fencing system.

Doffen was the first goat that Bente and Hans met when they picked them up in Stad. Doffen has a light face with grey patches on his body. He was born on 4 February 2025 and has individual number 50003/25003.

Oreo is Doffen’s full brother and the easiest goat in the herd to handle. Oreo looks like an Oreo cookie with black and white markings on his body. He has a fondness for earrings, so watch your valuables! He was born on 4 February 2025 and has individual number 50004/25004.

Pelle is currently the largest and most food-motivated goat in Glesvær. He is the only grey/black goat in the sibling group. He was born on 4 February 2025 and has individual number 50007/25002.

Albert is the number one cuddle goat in the herd. He likes to climb into the bodies of those who want to pet him and will happily lie in their laps. Albert, like Oreo, is more spotted in colouring, but closer to Doffen in overall tones. He was born on 14 February 2025 and has individual number 50018/25001.

Luring started his career in Glesvær by escaping for 11 days. He is often the first to come when the goats are called, but he always keeps a bit of distance. He is therefore quite skittish, and we ask everyone to be mindful of this and not run after him. He is the lightest goat in the herd with white and brown patches all over his body. He was born on 27 February 2025 and has individual number 50019.
